Aerich was born to a disgraced noblewoman of Taldor known to the Church of Abadar as Alyssa of Taldor. Alyssa had disgraced her father, Sir Tomas Wolfe, who was a Chevalier devoted to the service of Abadar as a Justicar. Upon learning of her delicate condition, he sent her to the Convent of Abadar operating near the city of Korvosa to give birth and return home.
She gave birth to a lithe boy. Upon birth the child was decidedly different. His hair was the color of bronze, his skin a soft and lustrous sheen, his eyes a polished silver in color. When he cried, an elaborate mark appeared across his chest and back: five red wings would glow and pulse with each scream. The Clerics and Nuns of the Convent realized that the child was no human, but an Aasimar.
The Clerics realized that such a child, born with such a mark, was a sign. The child was to be an agent of vengence. Their divinations were difficult to ascertain ? Abadar refused to reveal the nature of the vengeance, only revealing a cryptic bit of verse:
“To mend that which has been broken, blood must be spilled.
From the ring of true loves blessing, evil is revealed.
From the depth of darkness, hidden in plain sight,
A soldier of vengeance will make all right”
When he was of age, the clerics immediately sent Aerich to the Temple of Iomedae in Magnamar. There, he began his martial training as a Paladin and academic instruction, as well as gaining a better understanding of his celestial origin. Living there for decades, his appearance intimidated the other Paladins-in-training, particularly the young men. He took to his studies intensely, practically living day and night not just amongst the books, but the weapon racks and the court of the High Magistrates of Magnimar.
As he completed his training, he fell in love with a young cleric of Sarenrae serving in the Court of Magnamar by the name of Aiori Baynes. The two were inseperable, he the lanky swordsman and she the gentle healer. She would regale him of growing up in the slums of Korvosa with her friends, and it was there where she was going to serve after their appointments.
Shortly after completing their vows as members of their churches, the two were married in a small ceremony in the Church of Sarenrae. He had just recieved his appointment as a Paladin in the Crusade of Iodamae. The two returned to Korvosa and she began administer to the poor and underserved in the city while he began serving as a Paladin in the Temple of Many.
Several weeks after their arrival, having slowly integrated into her social circle of friends, Aiori disappeared. Aerich led the search for her, working closely with the City Watch, before her corpse was discovered. Badly disfigured, the most powerful divination spells were unable to discern who was her murderer. Worst of all, the simple gold wedding band ? formed into that of a Kings Head Knot ? was missing.
Abandoning Iodamae, angry that the god of righteousness had turned away from him and his wife, Aerich scoured the seedy underbelly of Korvosa without his divine powers. In his search, he turned up a single clue.
His Wedding Ring.
The ring had been pawned. The owner had confessed that the man who had brought pawned the ring went by the name Gaedren Lamm.
The night he discovered the ring, Aerich was visited by a dream. In this dream, a knight addorned with five wings of fire spoke to him. The angelic knight offered Aerich a cause in which to serve. Aerich was to become a weapon of righteous punishment in the name of heaven for all evil doers. He would become his servant on Golorion, and through him, justice for Aiori and all of the others like her would be dispensed. The next morning, Aerich awoke and immediately swore his life in the service of Ragathiel, the General of Vengeance and Warlord of Heaven.
Ragathiel, in return, granted him power as one of his Clerics.
Aerich has set about gathering his and Aiori’s friends in Korvosa, looking to find the villain known as Gaedren Lamm.
